The Yoshiharu L-7 Maruichi set with baren is a set of Japanese gouges. These gouges have a longer handle, so you can hold them like a pencil and work really precisely with them. They are typical, traditional Japanese gouges, made for making wood engravings. But they are also suitable for other forms of woodworking. The set includes a ‘baren’. This is a traditional Japanese tool for pressing the paper onto the woodblock. The baren is wrapped in a bamboo leaf. You grab the baren where the ends of the leaf are wrapped around each other, and go over the paper around the woodblock to press the ink firmly onto the paper.
